It’s always worth reminding people that if President Joe Biden were compelled to live by the standards he intends to institute for college students accused of sexual misconduct, he would be presumed guilty of rape, denied any legitimate opportunity to refute Tara Reade’s charges, and tossed from office in disgrace.
The New York Times reports today that Biden’s Kafkaesque “White House Gender Policy Council” is “beginning his promised effort to dismantle Trump-era rules on sexual misconduct that afforded greater protections to students accused of assault.” The subhead informs us that, “The Biden administration will examine regulations by Betsy DeVos that gave the force of law to rules that granted more due-process rights to students accused of sexual assault.”
The most disingenuous word here — though the piece is brimming with them — is “more.” History did not begin in 2015, and former education secretary Betsy DeVos did not invent more due-process rights in Title IX; she simply reinstated time-honored fundamental due-process rights that have guided justice systems in the liberal world for hundreds of years. The Constitution says — twice — that no citizen shall be arbitrarily “deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law.” No means no.
Aaaaaaaand the pendulum may swing back to where it once was against equal due process for all parties involved in alleged college sex assault cases:
Talk about prevention. To help one not find out about the unconstitutional sex offense laws, due process needs to be equal for both parties in allegations to help prevent miscarriages of justice.
Ummm, I hate to say this, but I’ve read there were a few cases where a student successfully sued because they actually violated title 9 by not protecting his due process rights. I’ve also been reading a lot of breitbart lately in order to understand how right wingers think, and from that I’ve concluded they’re the ones who want to create an environment where an accusation equals guilt.
Times like these remind me of seeing the true colors of politicians. When someone is accused in the party they need due process; while at the same time hang someone of the opposing party accused of the same thing. Context means nothing today and an accusation means one is guilty. Media, politicians and the internet certainly don’t help matters.
ALL POLITICIANS are domestic terrorist, they are the biggest threat to society as we know it. ALL of them. Republican or democrats, they are all the same threat unfortunately. Every one of them need to be stripped of their immense pay grade and be scrutinized for corruption at EVERY level in their lives before and after they begin or leave office. Of course it will never happen until they push the people to far and there is another civil war, only it will be the masses against the privileged and corrupt. I have faith in Americans as we are smart and reasonable in most cases, unless they have a fiduciary interest in not being.
Very well said mike r. I was coming up through the local ranks when I made a bad choice and was arrested and I hate to say, but I wasn’t the only one. The world of inside politics is insane, disgusting and incredibly scary. You really have no idea. Glad I’m out of it.
As my wife put it, nobody hates the idea of college guys sleeping with college girls more than older men who want to sleep with college girls. If you look at most American cults, you see a pattern—older male leaders surrounding themselves with lots of women, especially younger women, and young guys finding themselves kicked out. While the registry might have been sold as a way to punish “dirty old men,” I think we know it’s mostly younger men who pay the price.
